Work Meeting Minutes April 4, 2018

Minutes of Fairview City Council Budget Work Meeting held on Wednesday, April 4, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room located at 85 South State Street, City of Fairview, Sanpete County, State of Utah.

Mayor David Taylor called the meeting to order at 8:07 a.m.  Council Members present were Cliff Wheeler, Casey Anderson, KaeLyn Sorensen, Bob St. Jacques, and Mike Jarman.

City employee Jan Anderson and citizen Charlet Pemberton were present also.

The purpose of the work meeting was to work on the budget for fiscal year ending

June 30, 2019, and to prepare for the tentative budget approval in May.

In the budget worksheets, the wages reflected numbers which were presented in the wage study. These numbers put each employee in the medium range.  The Council would like to increase the crossing guard wage from $7.50 to $10.00 per hour.  They were all in agreement to increase the Mayor’s wage from $500 to $1,000 a month and increase each councilmember’s wage up $25 per month from $225 to $250.  A public hearing will be held in June for the proposed increase for the Mayor and Council wage increase per ordinance.  There is an increase in the police department from last year.  Hoping to chip seal half of the city roads by the end of June. Plan to finish the other half in the fall.  The Council would like a monthly update (form) on donation requests.  They would like to see the Mayor and Council attend more training and discussed offering $100 per training as an incentive.  Four thousand will need to be added to the unemployment benefits.  An additional $10,000 will be added to the buildings and grounds in wages and supplies for upgrade of the rodeo grounds and add an additional $1,500 in parks.  The Council was asked to get with their department heads and go over their budgets.

The Council would like to schedule a work meeting with Kyle from Pelorus to go over the financial statements.  It was agreed that May 9that 6:30 would work for the City Council.
